Student Programming & Raider Entertainment (SPARE)

About Us

Past

In 1973, MTSU Student Programming and Raider Entertainment (SPARE) came about through the creation of the MTSU Special Events Committee. Since then, we have strived to create the best entertainment possible for the students by having our events brainstormed, planned, promoted, and executed by students. In the past, our concerts in Murphy Center were the main stage of Nashville’s live music scene. Being the biggest arena in the Middle Tennessee area, many artists have played Murphy Center in the height of their career, including Elvis Presley, Elton John, Tina Turner, Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, and Nine Inch Nails. Students involved with Student Programming were granted the opportunity to work with these artists and their management to put together a full scale arena concert while gaining hands on experience outside of the classroom.

Present

SPARE councils research, plan, and implement programs and are completely comprised of current MTSU students working together to organize music, movie, gaming, and variety events. Additionally, we operate tailgating activities at Walnut Grove. MTSU Student Programming and Raider Entertainment’s events throughout the school year include concerts, comedians, and movie nights. Additionally, there are special events such as the Connection Point Comedian and the annual screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show.

SPARE puts a large focus on education outside the classroom. Many of our students come from business and recording industry backgrounds (though all majors are welcome!), and getting involved provides an opportunity to get hands-on experience to supplement their education. Our current councils are involved in event research, event planning, and event operation, as well as brainstorming new promotion efforts to raise awareness of the entertainment opportunities provided for the general MTSU Student Body.

Future

YOU will shape the future. SPARE is always expanding and growing our consistent programs to help foster a fun, welcoming environment at MTSU. Every day is an opportunity to learn, meet new people, and grow. Have time to SPARE? Spend it with us!
